The Domino® server intermittently reports the following error at start up:
Error on Listen function: The requested TCP/IP port is in use on this system.
Answer
In this case, the fully qualified domain name was:
department.company1.net
and the Net Address was:
department.area4.com
In the DNS server, both of the fully qualified domain names were listed. When the server starts, sometimes this name was resolved and other times it was not; therefore, the error appeared randomly.
To correct this problem, modify the fully qualified domain name to match the server's hostname so that both fields have the same fully qualified domain name. A server restart is required for this change to take effect.
